The Northern, or Marian Route of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage began at the headwaters of the Mississippi, at Bemidji, Minn., on May 17.

WAUKESHA COUNTY 鈥 Last month, a group of Christian travelers began expeditions from the nation鈥檚 four corners. Often on foot, these wayfarers are part of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, a religious journey associated with the Catholic Church鈥檚 grassroots movement known as The Revival.

The routes will converge in Indianapolis in July for the National Eucharistic Congress. But before the pilgrims meet next month, they must make a few stops. And the journey鈥檚 northern arm 鈥 the Marian Route 鈥 will arrive in SM天地论坛 County on Thursday.

It鈥檚 estimated that the pilgrimage will arrive in Centennial Park, N55W29599 County Highway K, in Hartland at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, where participants will join with community and parish members of the St. Charles parish to walk a roughly one-hour, 1.7-mile route along the Ice Age trail to St. Charles, 313 Circle Drive.

Upon arriving at the parish, a Eucharistic adoration hour will take place in the church for parishioners, guests and those who joined the pilgrimage from Centennial Park while the long-haulers have a private dinner. At 7 p.m., the church will be holding an Encounter Night 鈥 also known as a Holy Hour or an Hour of Power. Join the church for more adoration, hear from speakers, listen to worship music, and take the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.

Following the evening鈥檚 activities, a social with snacks will be held in the church as the traveling group of pilgrims are driven to SM天地论坛, with its first stop in Spring City at Schoenstatt International Center, W284-N698 Cherry Lane.

In anticipation of the travelers鈥 arrival, Schoenstatt will host a picnic at 6:30 p.m. Participants can prepare a sandbag with a vigil light and their family name to place on the procession鈥檚 path, bring a photo or write the names of loved ones to be remembered during the night in adoration, and offer prayers to place in the fire at the Schoenstatt Shrine.

At 7:30 p.m., community members can say the rosary and burn offerings by the Schoenstatt Shrine. To prepare the atmosphere for the arrival of the pilgrimage, a cenacle hour will be held at 8 p.m. with a "moment to implore the Holy Spirit in union with the Blessed Mother," according to Schoenstatt鈥檚 website.

The procession is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 9 p.m., followed by an Encounter Hour similar to the one at St. Charles.

All-night Eucharistic adoration will be available in Schoenstatt鈥檚 Fr. Kentenich Hall until 7 a.m. Friday.

Friday

The Schoenstatt visit continues with 7 a.m. Mass in Fr. Kentenich Hall followed by a 0.2-mile solemn Eucharistic procession to the shrine for 15 minutes of adoration and benediction.

While the pilgrimage proceeds to the next stop in SM天地论坛, Mass and a praying of the rosary will begin at 7:45 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd. The travelers will arrive at 8:30 a.m. for a 15-minute "Holy Pit Stop" for Eucharistic adoration and benediction.

A four-mile Eucharistic Procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 818 N East Ave., will follow. The pilgrims will walk down Moreland Boulevard, into Frame Park, and along the SM天地论坛 Christmas Parade route. Catholic Community of SM天地论坛 Liturgy and Music Director Bob Gallagher says the procession will pause by both the downtown Parade Memorial and Veterans Park to offer prayer for those impacted by the 2021 tragedy.

Anyone can join the procession anywhere along the route, the director added.

Organizing the procession constituted much of the Catholic Community of SM天地论坛鈥檚 preparations for the pilgrimage. Gallagher was tasked with recruiting volunteers to carry a canopy over the Blessed Sacrament as it processes through the city, along with servers to carry incense and the processional cross.

"We鈥檒l carry lit candles, too," he explained. "(S)ome of our priests will be involved in actually carrying the Blessed Sacrament."

The pilgrimage will arrive at St. Joseph at approximately 10:30 a.m. for another 15-minute "Holy Pit Stop."

Gallagher encourages area Catholics to experience the noteworthy event. "It鈥檚 a chance for us to come together in prayer. It鈥檚 a chance for us to take our gospel message out into the world, into the public, to demonstrate our faith, to demonstrate our love of the sacrament," he said. "It鈥檚 a wonderful time for us to build community, to come together."

For the next month, the Marian Route of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will continue winding its way through the upper Midwest. If you don鈥檛 have the opportunity to experience the pilgrimage in SM天地论坛 County, head to Wauwatosa to catch the next stop.

What is the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage?

Called upon by bishops of the United States, the Catholic Church began The Revival movement in 2022. The first National Eucharistic Pilgrimage began on May 18 and will conclude on July 17, when four separate pilgrimage routes will meet in Indianapolis for a Eucharistic Congress.

A group of perpetual pilgrims will听traverse each route completely, joined by a caravan of locals in each community. For two months, the perpetual pilgrims will follow a weekly routine of attending Mass, participating in solemn and public processions, hosting events at churches along the routes, and participating in public service projects prior to arriving at听the Lucas Oil Stadium on July 17, where the 10th National Eucharistic Congress 鈥 the first one in 83 years 鈥 will be held for five days. Attendees from the north, south, east and west routes of the pilgrimage will attend breakout sessions and gather for worship for five days, a symbol of the Church鈥檚 unity.
