WAUKESHA — The School District of SMÌìµØÂÛ̳ Board of Education interviewed seven candidates on Thursday: Angelique Byrne and Stephanie Fidlin, who both ran for the School Board in April, as well as Joshua Jacobson, Thomas Harland, Rick Braun, Beatrice Gonzalez and William Megna. The purpose was to appoint a person for the vacant board position created by the resignation of Marquell Moorer.
The Board appointed Thomas Harland to fill the vacant position. Harland will assume office next week when he begins his service at the Sept. 11 Board Meeting. His term will run through April 28, 2025.
Harland previously ran in spring against incumbent SMÌìµØÂÛ̳ County Board Supervisor Larry Nelson for the District 18 seat.
Moorer resigned from the School Board in July. Moorer was also member of the Human Resources & Compensation, Student Services, Teaching & Learning, and Policy & Government Relations committees during his tenure.
"He was an active volunteer and frequent visitor within our schools, with a genuine focus on helping kids and teachers. It is indeed this education focus that inspires him and that awarded him the upcoming opportunity to participate in a graduation teacher fellowship out of state," a press release said.
