WAUKESHA — The SMÌìµØÂÛ̳ School Board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the Board Room of the Blair Administration Building, 301 Hyde Park Ave.Ìý

The purpose of this meeting is to interview candidates for the vacant board position created by the resignation of Marquell Moorer.

Candidates include Angelique Byrne and Stephanie Fidlin who both ran for the school board in April. Joshua Jacobson, Thomas Harland, Rick Braun, Beatrice Gonzalez and William Megna are also candidates.Ìý

There will be a discussion of candidates followed by a ballot vote on a possible appointment.Ìý

School Board member Marquell Moorer resigned from the School Board in July. Moorer was also member of the Human Resources & Compensation, Student Services, Teaching & Learning, and Policy & Government Relations committees during his tenure.

"He was an active volunteer and frequent visitor within our schools, with a genuine focus on helping kids and teachers. It is indeed this education focus that inspires him and that awarded him the upcoming opportunity to participate in a graduation teacher fellowship out of state," a press release said.

A public notification was published and applications were accepted from July 15-26.ÌýÌý

Interviews will be held starting Thursday in the Board Room at the Blair Administration Building. Each candidate will have up to 25 minutes to respond to interview questions. Interviews will be video recorded but not live streamed.

Once all interviews are completed on Thursday, the Board may engage in discussion prior to casting ballot votes. Applicants who do not receive votes and/or those will the least number of votes will be eliminated from further ballots.

Agreement among a majority of the existing eight Board members is required to approve the new Board member, meaning five votes will be required for approval The appointed applicant will be sworn into office by the board secretary as soon as possible after the appointment and will be eligible to attend the Sept. 11 meeting. The appointee will hold office until April 22.
